Message from the Principal, Term 1, Week 1
Dear SSIS Senior School parents and guardians,
Welcome to our first newsletter of the new academic year.
I am really glad to have had the opportunity to meet many of you on our Orientation Day. What a great turnout! Parents had the chance to meet the leadership team in Senior School and they also had ample time to interact and ask questions.
We are very excited to introduce our new team of teachers. Driven by passion, our teachers come with years of international school teaching experience and will enthuse all our students with a deep love for learning here at SSIS. You will be able to find out more about our new and also returning teachers in our weekly we-chat postings.
In our bid to consolidate all student information, we ask you to complete and update all fields in PARENT PORTAL. You can access PARENT PORTAL via our school website. Our deadline is 1 September for all information to be keyed into PARENT PORTAL. Please note that if your child’s information is incomplete or inaccurate, he/she may not be able to register for school activities and ASPs.
Here at SSIS, we believe that learning does not just take place in the classrooms. This year, besides the annual Grade 7-11 Autumn Excursions, we have also lined up our Grade 7 & 8 Camp and G11 & 12 DP Camp early on in the school year. Some of the learning objectives include team-building, values and character development and leadership training. Permission slips have been sent home at the beginning of this week. Please return all the slips to Homeroom teachers and update all information on PARENT PORTAL. CASH payment for the camp and/or excursion can be made to the Finance Office from 28 August to 1 September.
Sept. 1-2: Grade 7/8 Camp
Sept. 6: PSG Coffee Morning
Sept. 8-9: Grade 11/12 DP Camp
Sept. 18-22: Autumn Excursions/G12 Incursion
Oct. 2-Oct. 6 National Day Holidays
Student of the Week
Lam Pui Lee G11 Pearl
Welcome to the new academic year! The Student of the Week is Lam Pui Lee. She received the highest score of 94 out of 100 in most recent IGCSE Chinese First language Examinations. A hearty congratulations to her! She was also one of the best Chinese Language class students in G10. She always puts in 100% effort and behaves in a polite and respectful manner in class. She is also very enthusiastic when it comes to promoting Chinese related activities such as when she volunteered to be the host for our combined Chinese New Year concert last year. She saw it as a great opportunity to practice her leadership and presentation skills by speaking in front of the whole school. She has registered for Chinese A Language and Literature DP course, which is also a challenge for her. We hope that she will continue to be as hard-working as before. We look forward to her awesome academic DP result in two years’ time. All the best, Pui Lee!
