A warm welcome from PE

Let me start by welcoming you all to a new and exciting school year. Firstly I will take this opportunity to introduce the PE team to you..

Katie McClure

Ms Katie is entering her 5th Year at SSIS. She currently runs our outstanding ASP programme and teaches grade 9, 10, 11 and 12 core PE.

Jamie Cattran

This is Mr Jamie’s 2nd year at SSIS. He is the CISSA coordinator and teaches Grade 6, 7, 9, 10, 11 and 12 core PE

Natalie Sharp

Ms Natalie is returning from maternity leave and is entering her 5th year at SSIS. She is the Head of Department for PE and she teaches grade 7, 8, 9 and IGCSE PE.

Chantelle Ho

Ms Ho is new to the SSIS family and will be teaching cross divisional. She teaches grades 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

PE Uniform

IMG_1800Just a reminder that all students should be changing into their PE uniform for every PE lesson. If you child forgets their uniform, their PE teacher will send a friendly email to inform and remind parents.

Thank you to all of those students that have already come in wearing the blue with pride. Please don’t forget proper footwear and a water bottle for class because it is hot outside.

 

 

Curriculum focus- IGCSE PE

This course provides learners with an opportunity to study both the practical and theoretical aspects of physical education. It is designed to encourage enjoyment in physical activity by providing learners with an opportunity to take part in a range of physical activities and develop an understanding of effective and safe physical performance.

IGCSE Physical Education encourage learners to develop:

• knowledge, skills and understanding of a range of relevant physical activities

• an ability to plan, perform and evaluate physical activities

• an understanding of effective and safe performance

• an understanding of the role of sport and physical activity in society and in the wider world

• an excellent foundation for advanced study

• an enjoyment of physical activity

PE events

We have just finished our second week of the all new inter house competition. All of the houses took part in a fierce badminton competition at lunch time to win points for their house. Points were awarded for the winners and for the house that was represented the most. The winners will be announced in assembly on Monday!

More events to look forward to are sports day on October 18th and the ACAMIS Volleyball tournament hosted at SSIS on November 9 – 11th! More details will follow about these events.
